The Film Independent Spirit awards announced its nominees for 2014, setting the table for at least a handful of films that will likely receive multiple awards leading up to the Oscars. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman leads the pack with six nominations, including Best Feature, Best Director, and Best Male Lead — none of which is too surprising — while Richard Linklater’s decade-spanning Boyhood, Dan Gilroy’s dark, Jake Gyllenhaal-powered thriller Nightcrawler, and Ava DuVernay’s Martin Luther King Jr. biopic Selma each received five nominations of their own. The Indie Spirit Awards will be celebrating its 30th anniversary when it broadcasts on IFC in February. See below for the full list of nominees.
