The top five most anticipated shows of October reflect the distinct lack of marquee horror titles coming to TV and streaming this month. Read on for the Most Anticipated TV and Streaming shows of October 2024!

Premiere Date: October 21, 2024 on FX

Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and the rest of the gang return for one last hurrah as the final season of What We Do in the Shadows premieres towards the end of the month. The series, based on Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s 2014 cult mockumentary of the same name, premiered in 2019 and quickly became a fan favorite, taking on a life of its own. This is the one series on the list that fits the October theme, and it’s the last season of the show, so it understandably reigns at the top.

No. 2

Premiere Date: October 10, 2024 on Prime Video

Prime Video had a bit of a sleeper hit on their hands when the original Citadel spy series debuted last year, so now they’re capitalizing on that popularity with a handful of spin-offs, the first of which is this one set in Italy. Matilda De Angelis stars as the titular agent, a woman out for revenge who joins Citadel to go undercover and expose a dangerous arms trader, getting revenge for a tragedy in her past along the way. The action-packed series nearly tied What We Do in the Shadows for the top spot (Citadel lost by only one vote), which may not surprise fans of the original show.

No. 3

Premiere Date: October 9, 2024 on ABC

Abbott Elementary has been a reliable comedy winner for ABC since it premiered in 2021 — and we mean that literally, considering it’s the recipient of multiple awards, including three Golden Globes and four Emmys. So it’s probably not a surprise to see it pop up on the list this month as we get ready for its fourth season. There isn’t much new to say about the show at this point, but if you haven’t seen it yet, maybe this is the time to start.

No. 4

Premiere Date: October 10, 2024 on Netflix

The Tomb Raider video game franchise hasn’t always translated successfully into its narrative adaptations, but maybe this new animated series will be the one to break through. Hayley Atwell lends her voice to the famed explorer in Netflix’s new show, which takes place after the video game reboot trilogy that ended in 2018. The games have been popular for decades, so it makes sense that fans are eager for a faithful and fun screen adaptation.

No. 5

Premiere Date: October 16, 2024 on Apple TV+

Finally, we have this little gem that debuted on Apple TV+ last year and quietly not only became Certified Fresh but also earned a couple of Emmy nominations. Jason Segel stars as a therapist who, after suffering a tragedy, throws caution to the wind and breaks some professional barriers to become more involved in his patients’ lives. The cast includes people like Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Ted McGinley, Heidi Gardner, Wendy Malick, and more. This is one of those “if you know, you know” shows, and its fans made sure it slid into the top five.
