Rolling Stones fans, your fall movie season just took a turn for the worse: Variety is reporting that Martin Scorsese’s Stones documentary, Shine a Light, is being pushed from its September 21 release date, and won’t reach theaters until the spring.
As the article notes, the move leaves the film’s distributor, Paramount, with only one non-DreamWorks release (Beowulf) on its fourth-quarter schedule. According to the studio, however, there were concerns about mounting an effective promotional push this fall, since the band is on tour through the end of the month, and therefore unavailable for a full-court press push.
No specific release date has been announced, but Variety says the film — which also features Buddy Guy, the White Stripes’ Jack White, and Christina Aguilera — is still scheduled to play on Imax screens.
