Practical Magic 2 Audience Reviews: A Heartwarming Sequel That’ll Have You Laughing & Crying

Your favorite witchy sisters are back in Practical Magic 2 and so are the midnight margaritas. In the sequel, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman return as magical sisters Sally and Gillian Owens who must once again confront their ancestral family curse to free the next generation, Sally’s daughters Kylie (Joey King) and Antonia (Maisie Williams) from its clutches. And audiences are already loving the long-awaited sequel.
While critics didn’t fall under the Owens family’s spell (just as they didn’t with the original 28 years ago) in their first reviews, let’s be real. This movie was always going to be for us, the ones who want a feel-good story about sisterhood that just so happens to have a touch of whimsy and magic. “I loved the fact that the principals were all there, portrayed by the same actors. I love how they didn’t go over and over information that was integral to the orginal storyline, that while important (angel wings, anyone?), didn’t need an explanation to carry the new storyline. It definitely will be just as enjoyable for those that have never seen the first movie as those returning to familiar ground. I feel there were holes in the storyline concerning Sandra Bullock’s character Sally Owens, and Lee Pace’s character Ian Wright. There just wasn’t enough on-screen interactions or even mentions of off-screen interactions. Also, can we talk about the non-existent character development for Maisie Williams’ character? I think more could have been done to flesh out her character that was completely shuttled. All in all, it was an entertaining way to spend an afternoon. Bring tissues if a beloved character’s death will make you cry, and settle in for an enjoyable escape.”
