The Broadcast Film Critics Association’s Critics’ Choice Awards has been a key early stop on the road for those looking to take home Oscars. First held in 1995, Critics’ Choice Awards honor films and actors in a variety of categories, including such non-Oscar groupings as Best Ensemble Cast, Best Comedy Film, and Best Young Performer. The association nominates 10 movies each year in its Best Film category – a lot, to be sure, but still often predictive of the Academy’s Best Picture nominees. BFCA members cast written ballots for nominees, which were announced in December, and the awards were handed out Jan. 14.
