It’s been three years since we last saw Din Djarin and “Baby Yoda” — aka The Mandalorian and Grogu — as they wrapped up the third season of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, but they have officially returned, this time on the big screen. Audiences couldn’t be happier, calling the movie an appropriately low-stakes adventure that delivers tons of action and puts the focus on its beloved star twosome. Even those who acknowledge that the story isn’t the most gripping tale in the galaxy say it’s still a fun piece of popcorn entertainment, and that’s all it needs to be.

Critics were bit more lukewarm on the film, acknowledging its action pedigree but a little dissatisfied at the extended-episode-of-the-show nature of its plot. Still, no one can deny the chemistry between Mando and Grogu, and for some critics, that was enough.

Here’s what audiences are saying about Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.

These reviews have been condensed and edited for clarity.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu 3D was an absolute cinematic experience from start to finish. The visuals were stunning, the sound design was incredible, and the emotional connection between Din Djarin and Grogu continues to be one of the best storylines in the Star Wars universe. The action sequences were intense, the humor landed perfectly, and Grogu completely stole the show every time he appeared on screen. Whether you’re a lifelong Star Wars fan or newer to the franchise, this movie delivers adventure, heart, nostalgia, and next-level visuals all in one package.”

The Mandalorian and Grogu is everything I wanted from a return to this galaxy — fun, heartfelt, adventurous, and filled with the spirit that made us love The Mandalorian in the first place. The bond between Din and Grogu has grown so naturally and emotionally over the years, and this movie really lets that relationship shine. Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt was such a surprising highlight. And seeing Zeb on the big screen was incredible — longtime fans are going to love it. But the true MVP once again is Ludwig Göransson. The score is outstanding — emotional when needed, thrilling during the action, and filled with those unforgettable themes that instantly draw you back into this universe. This film reminded me exactly why The Mandalorian started as such a phenomenon: heart, adventure, great characters, and that classic Star Wars sense of wonder.

“I was a little worried going into this movie because of all the negative pre-reviews surrounding it. Turns out, those reviews were wrong. This was a great movie for what it’s meant to be: a classic Star Wars popcorn flick. The action was fun, the puppets and practical effects were awesome to see in action, and it carried those heartfelt father/son moments that The Mandalorian does so well. This felt like a true family movie, the kind where families can come together, laugh, enjoy the action, and escape into another world for a couple of hours.”
— Davis M.

“Great Star Wars movie. Was it the best one? No, but very enjoyable. Kids had a great time, was just fun. Sold out at our theatre, everybody seemed to have a good time. Would rewatch. Even Martin Scorsese is in it. Cinema.”

Mandalorian and Grogu was VERY fun. The quality was definitely above TV for sure, but also not AAA release like a saga film would be. But that’s not necessary for what it was. The story was far more entertaining than I expected; it’s a kind of story I think they need to do more of. This felt like a fun adventure in the Star Wars universe with less consequential hooks to bigger things. For me it hit that magic formula that X-Files managed: the one-off episodes where the plot was the main dish, and “the lore” was the garnish. So often Star Wars does the lore as the only interesting story beats, and the rest sometimes feels like filler until the next story dump. This got the formula right, in my opinion.”

“Fantastic addition to the Mandoverse!”
— Michael B.

“I thought The Mandalorian and Grogu was a fun extension of the Mandoverse. It was action packed and was consistent with the story provided on the small screen. The only thing I wish there was more of were characters like Hera or Chopper from Star Wars: Rebels. Zeke was a major character; I just wanted to see a little more from Rebels.”
— Grant W.

“This was a wonderful Star Wars movie. It was fun from start to finish. It had elements of the original and prequel trilogies, with just the right amount pulled from the sequel trilogy. Those combined with The Mandalorian’s adventurous vibe from the series added up to a really good time at the movies that kept me grinning the entire runtime. It’s not the best in the franchise, but it’s certainly not the worst. I’d highly recommend it to Star Wars fans, sci-fi/adventure movie fans, and fans of enjoyable movies in general.

Loved the feel of this truly being a Din Djarin and Grogu-focused movie. No major side plots were introduced and it truly shows the character and the relationship between the two. The story was well written and there was just enough humor and character development displayed so that it didn’t throw off the story. Bravo!”

“A delightfully human treat of a movie! Mando & Grogu is a lower-stakes, ’80s style, action-adventure movie, exactly as advertised. A nice change of pace when so many movies all revolve around the end of the world. The middle act becomes a full fledged Henson-style fantasy that we haven’t seen on screen in a long time. The design work is insane. The almost constant action without becoming monotonous is fantastic. And the puppeteering is beyond anything we’ve seen. While lacking a bit in terms of character development, it has a surprisingly tight script with many seemingly throw away lines having payoff. Take a break from reality and see a fun movie that leans hard into the Saturday Matinee Serials that inspired George Lucas.”
— Jarrett S.

“People need to go into the theater expecting to watch a new tale in the Star Wars universe that still maintains continuity in the Mandalorian story arc. It was fun, different, and enjoyable without spoiling anything for everyone. Characters from other series were an unexpected surprise and enjoyable. I highly recommend for watching from fans who enjoy watching from a galaxy far, far away.”
