Elle Fanning Talks About Her Adult Model Research and Margo’s Got Money Troubles – The Awards Tour Podcast
The Emmy-nominated actress talks about assembling her all-star cast and revisits some of her other iconic roles.
Our guest on this week’s The Awards Tour Podcast is Elle Fanning, who joins Rotten Tomatoes correspondent Jacqueline Coley to dive into the details of her new hit dramedy Margo’s Got Money Troubles. Fanning talks about the research she did to authentically portray an adult video model, describes how she and the producers fought to bring in an all-star cast (including the incomparable Michelle Pfeiffer), and revisits some of her other roles, like Catherine the Great and Effie Trinket, explaining how portraying them informs her acting in the show. Catch up on Margo’s Got Money Troubles on Apple TV.
Jacqueline Coley for Rotten Tomatoes: I’d love for you to talk about how you came across the mom-turned-OnlyFans-alien soap opera that is Margo’s Got Money Troubles. How did it come to you and what made you want to say yes?
Elle Fanning: I got to read the book before it was technically published. I was one of the lucky ones. Rufi Thorpe, who wrote the novel, was thinking about pitching it out to people to see if it could be a movie or a show, and so many people had their hands on it and were interested. I was definitely one of them. And my sister and I read it, and we thought, “Gosh, this would be perfect for our company to produce.”
I really gravitated towards Margo for a lot of obvious reasons. For example: her resilience. I hadn’t necessarily played a character quite like her before. I felt very free. Her optimism is something that struck me, because she’s thrown a lot of challenges throughout the series, and in the book, and the way that she tackles those obstacles was really inspiring to me, because she kind of always takes the tougher road, but is able to come out honestly in a better place, or at least find more of herself and who she is.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles is streaming now on Apple TV.
