WATCH: Star Trek Beyond Trailer

by | December 14, 2015 | Comments

See the Enterprise get destroyed (again!) in the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond. The Simon Pegg-scripted, Justin Lin-directed entry in the venerable sci-fi series sees the crew abandoning ship and embracing new frontiers and explosions in Beyond, due in theaters July 22, 2016.

  • Dirk Disco

    Looks and sounds aweful.

    • herekittykitty

I could not have said it better myself

      • voiceofreason

you may have spelled it better yourself, perhaps.

      • Radio Interference

        Whine whine whine whaaaaaaae

    • Scott Mortensen

People said the same thing about the other two. They succeeded admirably anyway.

    • Radio Interference

      Complain like an enema.

  • herekittykitty

This is the worst looking Star Trek movie I have ever seen. It’s not even Star Trek – I mean WTF

    • Radio Interference

      Cry like a baby.Don’t like it,don’t watch it.Good riddance.

  • voiceofreason

I actually think they are smart to market it this way. Obviously that song isn’t part of the movie, nor is the movie going to be a bunch of back to back gags. But this kind of fun and comedy-leaning trailer – while it may be off-putting to franchise fans and die-hard trekkies – is likely to do wonders for the general public. I wouldn’t judge the movie on this one trailer – leave that to the general public to do. Let them be disappointed when it has a far more serious tone than the trailer makes it seem. Taking itself too seriously would be the worst way to market this, imo. Guardians of the Galaxy was a massive hit, and it didn’t get there by being marketing with a stuffy tone.

    • pfeerick

Agreed. Goes back to the adage of ‘never judge a book by it’s cover’. Sames goes for most TV shows – you needs to watch at least the first two episodes to give it a chance to warm up and explain the story enough for you to work out if it’s going to suit your tastes. The trailer is not inspiring as a fan, but it won’t stop me from watching the movie when it does come out, and hoping to see different trailers closer to release that indicate the movie is more substance and less tacky.

      • PK68

A trailer is supposed to make you want to see the film that it’s for. This has the opposite effect.

    • PK68

This is not GOTG. It’s Trek or it’s supposed to be. Minus the soul and moral compass and brains.

      • Radio Interference

        Whaaaaaaa cry cry cry

  • Se

Is it just me or does anyone else find these special effects loaded monstrosities forgettable?

I think I can remember the one about the hump whales better than the last two…

    • Doofy69

That’s just because you have a fetish for whale wiener.

      • Se

        ?? Such a strange response….

        • David Jones

And so surprising from a guy named “Doofy69.”

    • Radio Interference

Star Trek 4, awesome. Will never be repeated.Remember it was a comedy.
All versions of trek have action episodes.Every version of Trek has detractors.

  • Luan Rodriguez

Simon Pegg, shitty music and 100% not related to what Star Trek is about. Awful.

    • Radio Interference

      Then don’t watch it.

  • zendoggie

Looks like a nail in the coffin.

  • Renato F Sousa

GOING DOWN THE HILL TRAILER !! SImply CRAP !! Add some hip hop too. It´s gonna be perfect !

  • Renato F Sousa

Thats why I will stick to STAR WARS like Forever !!

  • BarryObama2014

Horrible and the movie series takes yet another nose dive.

  • Truth4Sale

I will go and see this movie, but I wonder how will like a Star Trek movie that’s missing one of my favorite ST “characters”…. “The Enterprise” ???

  • Bob Rice

    Daddy likes

  • silencedogoodreturns

Seriously? If that truly reflects the movie, it’s a death blow to the Star Trek franchise.

  • David Kaufman

    Looks absolutely Horrible !!

  • Talan7

they are trying for a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe. Usurer might as well be green

  • Annihilator001

I actually like the look and feel of the New Star Trek movies. I also like the Original I think both series has there place in the Star Trek Universe. Remember the original Star Trek would have been more up paced if the budgets allowed for it. There are many Star Trek Episode and movies that have similar type of action in them.

    • Radio Interference

Finally a reasonable person.Live long and prosper.

  • michael1968

This might be the worst thing I have ever seen.

    • Radio Interference

Remember Nemesis?I will never watch that again.

  • Bill David

This really makes me sad. Star Trek keeps veering further and further away from what it’s really supposed to be about.

  • HeadBob GunPants

Simon Pegg is JarJar Binks in any action movie they let him near.

    • Radio Interference

      Another knob

  • Mark Lang

Oh boy – another “fight master” “kick butt’ female “warrior” character!!!!!

Has there been some kind of law passed that requires one of them in every action movie?

    • Radio Interference

      Don’t like strong women?

      • Mark Lang

Love them – but, as in everything in life – too much of something is too much of something. It certainly gets boring when one has to be shoehorned into absolutely every movie.

    • axsd

The smarter producers have noticed that’s required to get anything resembling a fair shake from reviewers as a whole.

A strong or even strongest-of-all female warrior type can be great. But it gets plain silly when movie makers of certain genres are terrified not to have one.

  • Jarvis

Kind of seems like it’s trying to rip off the feel of Guardians of the Galaxy. Sad. Star Trek is a different thing. It has its place and it has a devoted audience, but it’s just not as hip or cool as Marvel, and shouldn’t try to be. Just be Star Trek.

  • Ted Knudson

I liked the trailer. I plan on seeing the movie when it comes out.

  • David Jones

Though I am a fan of the snappier pace of the new Star Trek movies, I have to agree with those saying that this looks bad. If there’s a story in here somewhere, it’s buried in gags and explosions. And people falling off things.

The Enterprise has been destroyed so many times now that it’s almost inconsequential.

    • Radio Interference

      Come on.Dude nailed Bones.

  • axsd

“Star Trek – Die Super Hard Faster and Extra Furious Mission Not Even Remotely Possible”

Typical of almost anything involving JJ Abrams: minimal creativity, zero courage. Just the laziest conceivable route to “butts in seats.”

  • fuzzynormal

Is this trailer just marketing or is the film a complete and final divorce from the ideals of the Star Trek brand?

Assuming the latter simply because of the director.

If so, how long will it take for the brand to recover from this?

  • Sabretruthtiger

The usual kick ass ninja invincible female fighter YAWN.

  • John White

No matter how far in the future, or how advanced the technology, these CGI monstrosities still come down to two people slugging it out. And if I see one more scene of someone jumping off something going over a cliff, well, I’m gonna find a cliff myself. Bang, bang, bang, bang … I’m so tired of it all.

  • Radio Interference

Complain complain complain.Trek fans have turned into wining bitches.I’m ashamed to be lumped in with you.I’ve watched Trek sense the mid 70s.Every version of Trek has Supposed fans that whine and complain.Stop with your closed minded attitudes.Relax and enjoy.Remember this could be Nemesis or Star Trek 5.Complaining whiny bitches. You say I want new Trek And Cry that you don’t like it.If that’s you.Your not a real fan.

  • john the lesser

It’s from the director of Fast and Furious, so it will be a really good Star Trek
