We can quibble about how well he pulled it off all year — in fact, we’ve pretty much done it all summer — but it’s hard to dispute that there has never been and will never be a more perfectly Michael Bay project than one in which giant robots from outer space come to Earth and blow stuff up. In fact, the only way Transformers could have been more quintessentially Bay is if it had been on even bigger screens. Like, oh, we don’t know, maybe IMAX screens.
Hey, guess what?
SuperheroHype is reporting that, come September 21, Transformers will indeed be making its way to IMAX theaters — and with extra footage to boot. Will it be enough to goose the film’s 57 percent Tomatometer rating? Don’t count on it — but the promise of seeing REALLY big robots duking it out will probably be enough to lure more than a few fans back into the theater. How about you?
