Looks like it’s stark days ahead for Iron Man, whose third film promises more darkness and more property destruction. Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role with director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). Iron Man 3 is in theaters May 3.
Fast Five drew a Certified Fresh rating in 2011, so of course the producers are going back to the well. (We contend the $200 million box office had nothing to do with it.) See everybody — and we do mean everybody — return to the series in The Fast and Furious 6 on May 24.
It may be called The Lone Ranger, but we all know this is Tonto’s show. Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp, along with Armie Hammer as the titular character, are collaborating on the adaptation of one of America’s most enduring yarns. See it in theaters July 3.
If Brad Pitt’s involved, then it’s proof-positive that zombies have finally lurched their way into blockbuster status. This Marc Forster-helmed project has been plagued with reshoots, not to mention it largely eschews the book’s episodic framing device. But still: Brad Pitt! Zombies! World War Z is out June 21.
Director Sam Raimi is branching out with Oz: The Great and Powerful, an earnest parable about how the Wizard of Oz came to be. James Franco stars as the title character, alongside Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, and Rachel Weisz. Take the trip down the yellow brick road on March 8.
