Disney Halts DTV Sequels! Hooray!

Good news all around. Plus, get this: Disney CCO John Lasseter has called the upcoming Tinkerbell movie "unwatchable." Ouch.

After years of lame-o video-shelf sequels to some of the finest Disney classics of all time, John Lasseter has pulled the plug on the DisneyToons productions. No more "Fox and the Hound 2." No more "Cinderella 3." Theatrical sequels, sure. But no more DTV junk. Looks like the Mouse House is taking a turn towards quality over quantity these days.

The head of the DisneyToons division has been dismissed, and once "Tinkerbell" and the in-production "Little Mermaid 3" are finished, we’ll be done with the stuff once and for all. I mean, really: How many parents are going to spin "101 Dalmatians 2: Patch’s London Adventure" more than once?

As far as the "Tinkerbell" flick goes, it looks like there’s still a lot of work to be done. Hats off to Lasseter for putting a stop to projects like "Meet the Robinsons 2: First Date" and "Chicken Little 2."

Plus the guy’s also directing "Toy Story 3." My new hero.
