Cleese Gets "Crood" for DreamWorks

Former Monty Python member and seriously funny fellow John Cleese will be writing the screenplay for DreamWorks’ just-announced "Crood Awakening," which will be an animated comedy about cavemen. Aardman Entertainment ("Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit," "Chicken Run") will be partnering with DreamWorks ("Shrek"), and it was Aardman gurus Peter Lord and David Sproxton who came up with the original idea.

The Hollywood Reporter was at Cannes when the new project was announced, which prompted Mr. Lord to share the following: "The Croods are sensationally unevolved … They haven’t got fire, or the wheel. But they learn how to tell jokes." Aardman & DreamWorks hope to have "Crood Awakening" ready for release in 2008.
